A Mid-Fiscal Year Review and Projection of the Regulatory Budget

A little more than halfway through the fiscal year, many agencies are well behind the Trump Administration’s goals for regulatory savings. Director of Regulatory Policy Dan Bosch and Senior Regulatory Policy Analyst Dan Goldbeck examine whether agencies can get back on track to achieve the administration’s government-wide savings target.

Their points:

  • For fiscal year 2019, the Trump Administration is seeking regulatory savings of nearly $18 billion;
  • Through final rules published by April 5, the administration had added more than $10 billion in total regulatory costs; and
  • Projecting final rules through September 30 shows the administration has more than enough expected savings to surpass its regulatory budget target.
