The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released the Monthly Treasury Statement for June 2026, including new data on federal revenues, spending, deficits, and debt. In a new insight, Director of Fiscal Policy Jordan Haring reviews the report and highlights its most notable findings.

Key points:

  • The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s June 2026 Monthly Treasury Statement shows the budget deficit totaled $1.4 trillion during the first nine months of fiscal year (FY) 2026 – $29 billion higher than the corresponding period in FY 2025.
  • Revenue is up by $143 billion in FY 2026, but spending is up by $172 billion, driven largely by higher entitlement spending and larger interest payments on the national debt.
