Eight Takeaways from CBO’s Report on Medicare for All
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report this week on the questions around a single-payer health care system. AAF’s Director of Health Care Policy Christopher Holt highlights eight key takeaways from the report and its implications.
His points include:
- A single-payer plan will come with a big price tag from CBO, regardless of the proposal’s effect on system-wide expenditures;
- CBO is wary of a single-payer system increasing utilization of health care services;
- CBO is still dubious about the effectiveness of government negotiations over drug prices; and
- Many outstanding questions remain about a single-payer system.
