Highlights of the 2025 Social Security and Medicare Trustees’ Reports

American Action Forum experts analyze the highlights of the Medicare and Social Security Trustees Reports released today. According to the reports, Medicare will go bankrupt in 2033 – three years earlier than the previous projection, and the Social Security Trust Funds will go bankrupt in 2034, one year earlier than last year’s estimate.

Other statistics include:

  • Medicare Part A had a deficit of $510.5 billion, with spending of $1.1 trillion and cash revenue of $611.6 billion.
  • Over the next 75 years, Social Security will owe $25.1 trillion more than it is projected to take in.
