New AAF Analysis on the State of Health Care in the Union

AAF’s Director of Health Care Policy Christopher Holt identifies three key areas of the health care debate that President Trump should discuss in his State of the Union address tonight. A summary:

  • The 800-pound gorilla—entitlement reform: Health care entitlements will run out of money—at the expense of those who rely on them—unless critical reforms are enacted.
  • Drug pricing and the cost of innovation: “The long-term budget implications of medical innovation are profound, but to pretend that we can reap the rewards of medical innovation without paying the costs is disingenuous.”
  • The specter of single-payer: Many on the left have prioritized implementing a single-payer system, and “policymakers, and especially proponents of the market, should lean into this debate.”
