New AAF Research on Student Loan Counseling
Today the American Action Forum released new research by AAF’s Director of Education Policy, Chad Miller, on the effectiveness of student loan counseling. Congress is currently debating the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. This legislation will almost certainly contain a requirement that students seeking federal loans have some sort of counseling to educate them on the debt they are incurring. This report highlights the existing evidence on the effectiveness of loan counseling and the need for further data, as well as offering several opportunities for reform.
