What Are The Job Trends in Cities That Raised The Minimum Wage?

The American Action Forum (@AAF) today released new research examining cities that raised their minimum wages in 2015 and the impact on restaurant employment. Cities that increased their minimum wage saw slower restaurant employment growth compared to surrounding areas. Overall, restaurant employment in major cities that raised the minimum wage this year only grew 1.1 percent, while it grew 2.8 percent in the surrounding areas. In addition, restaurant employment in Seattle grew at 0.6 percent this year, compared to 6 percent in the rest of the state. Restaurant employment in the San Francisco Bay area has only grown 1.9 percent this year; in the rest of California it has grown 3.6 percent.
