Projecting Regulatory Savings: Top Five Agencies for FY2019

The Trump Administration is expected to soon release its final accounting for the fiscal year (FY) 2019 regulatory budget. As a reminder, the administration set a target for federal executive agencies to achieve a cumulative $17.9 billion in net present-value savings for FY2019.

Last month, the American Action Forum (AAF) projected the results of the FY2019 regulatory budget. AAF found that the administration had achieved $8.6 billion in net savings — slightly more than half of its target. Still, several agencies posted impressive savings totals.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) led the way with more than $9.2 billion in projected savings. This marks the second consecutive year HHS finalized the most savings (HHS saved $12.5 billion in FY2018).

Rounding out the top five agencies with the greatest regulatory savings in AAF’s projection were the Departments of Labor, Transportation, Interior, and Agriculture. The rest of the agency-by-agency projections can be found here.
